Why cardiometabolic risk is higher among South Asians

• South Asians have up to 4× higher risk of type 2 diabetes.
• Nearly 2× higher risk of coronary artery disease.
• Cardiovascular events often occur nearly 10 years earlier.
• Higher rates of visceral adiposity and metabolic inflammation.
• Increased cardiovascular risk even at lower BMI and LDL levels.

This elevated risk calls for specialized assessment, culturally informed preventive strategies, and proactive cardiometabolic management.
