What is a heart attack?
- Sudden blockage of a coronary artery
- Reduces or stops blood flow to heart muscle
- Most commonly due to plaque rupture and clot formation
- Leads to heart muscle injury if not treated promptly

Common Symptoms of Heart Attack
Some symptoms may overlap across presentations.
Typical ("classic") symptoms of a heart attack:
- Chest pressure, tightness, or pain
- Discomfort in one or both arms
- Shortness of breath
- Cold sweat
- Nausea
- Lightheadedness
If you have any of these symptoms,
call 911 immediately.
Atypical Symptoms of Heart Attack
Some symptoms may overlap across presentations.
More common in women, older adults, and people with diabetes:
- Unusual fatigue
- Shortness of breath without chest pain
- Indigestion-like discomfort
- Back, neck, or jaw pain
- Nausea
- Lightheadedness
If you have any of these symptoms,
call 911 immediately.
